Neck and back pain are common conditions that can affect comfort, movement and daily activity. Symptoms may develop gradually or appear suddenly following injury, strain or prolonged postural stress. Pain may affect the neck, upper back, or lower back, and in some cases can spread into the shoulders, arms or legs.
At Total Care Clinic, our physiotherapists provide evidence-based assessment and treatment for neck pain and back pain, focusing on reducing pain, restoring movement and supporting long-term spinal health.
This service is suitable for adults experiencing ongoing or recurrent neck pain, upper back pain or lower back pain, as well as stiffness, reduced mobility or nerve-related symptoms. Many people attend physiotherapy when back pain begins to interfere with work, sleep, exercise or daily activities.
Every appointment begins with a detailed physiotherapy assessment to understand how your symptoms started, how they affect your movement and whether nerve involvement is present. Assessment includes spinal mobility, posture, strength and movement patterns, allowing us to determine whether pain is related to muscular tension, joint restriction, disc involvement or nerve irritation, such as sciatica or cervical radiculopathy.
Physiotherapy treatment is tailored to your diagnosis, symptoms and goals. It focuses on restoring movement, reducing pain and supporting a safe return to regular activity. Treatment may include hands-on therapy to improve joint and soft tissue mobility, targeted exercise programmes to build strength and control, and education to help you understand and manage your condition.
Disc-related conditions, including bulging or herniated discs, can cause local spinal pain or symptoms that travel into the arm or leg. Sciatica often presents as pain, tingling or numbness down the leg. Neck pain, upper back pain, and whiplash injuries may also contribute to stiffness, headaches and reduced range of movement. In many cases, these conditions respond well to structured, conservative physiotherapy without the need for surgery.
We regularly assess and treat a wide range of neck and back conditions, including:
Your physiotherapy programme is structured to guide you through each stage of recovery. This may include early pain management and movement restoration, followed by progressive strengthening and a gradual return to everyday activities or exercise.
We work with you to improve movement confidence, address contributing factors and reduce the risk of future flare-ups.
