Small Group Rehabilitation is a supervised exercise rehabilitation programme designed to support recovery, rebuild strength and improve movement in a safe and structured environment. It is ideal for people who are no longer in acute pain but still benefit from professional guidance, clinical exercise, and ongoing progression.
At Total Care Clinic, Small Group Rehabilitation is delivered by a Chartered Physiotherapist and combines rehabilitation-based exercise with principles drawn from Pilates, strength training and exercise for core strength.
Small Group Rehabilitation may be suitable if you are recovering from injury or surgery, managing ongoing joint or back pain, or returning to exercise after a period of inactivity. Many participants attend after completing one-to-one physiotherapy and want to continue exercise rehabilitation in a supervised setting.
Each participant follows an individualised programme tailored to their condition, goals and current ability. Sessions are supervised throughout, with a maximum of four people per group, allowing for focused attention, safe progression and clear clinical guidance.
The programme focuses on safe, evidence-based clinical exercise to improve strength, mobility, posture and confidence in movement. Exercises are progressed gradually and reviewed regularly to ensure they remain appropriate as recovery continues.
Specific emphasis is placed on exercise for core strength, movement control and stability, which can be particularly beneficial for people managing exercise for back pain or returning to activity following injury.
Pilates-based movements may be used where suitable, particularly for spinal stability, making the programme appropriate for beginners and those seeking a controlled, supportive approach to exercise.
Small Group Rehabilitation sits between one-to-one physiotherapy and independent exercise. It provides ongoing clinical oversight during recovery and helps bridge the gap towards greater independence while maintaining safe progression.
For some people, it may also act as a stepping stone towards Clinical or Reformer Pilates once strength, control, and confidence have improved.
