Sports Injury Treatment

Expert sports physiotherapy to support your recovery

At Total Care Clinic, we understand how frustrating it can be when an injury interrupts your training, performance or everyday activity. As an established sports injury clinic, our chartered physiotherapists and podiatrists provide comprehensive assessment and evidence-based treatment for athletes of all levels.

Whether you train recreationally or compete at a high level, our focus is on safe, structured rehabilitation that supports full recovery and helps you return to sport with confidence.

Comprehensive assessment and diagnosis

Every appointment begins with a detailed assessment to identify the cause of your injury and any contributing factors. This includes reviewing your sporting background, training load, movement patterns, biomechanics and the specific demands of your sport.

By understanding both the injury and how it developed, we can address the source of symptoms and reduce the risk of recurrence.

How we treat sports injuries

Your treatment plan is individually designed and tailored to your injury, sport and stage of recovery. Physiotherapy may include hands-on treatment, progressive exercise rehabilitation and advanced techniques where clinically appropriate.

Our clinicians draw on recognised sports physiotherapy principles to support recovery at every stage, from early pain management through to return-to-sport preparation.

Manual therapy and soft tissue treatment

Hands-on treatment may be used to reduce pain, improve mobility and support tissue healing. This can include sports massage, deep tissue techniques, myofascial release, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation and Muscle Energy Technique, depending on your presentation.

Dry needling and taping

Dry needling may be incorporated to help reduce muscle tension and modulate pain. Supportive taping techniques can also be used to provide stability and confidence during training and rehabilitation.

Advanced physiotherapy approaches

Where appropriate, your physiotherapist may use recognised assessment and treatment frameworks such as the McKenzie Technique, Mulligan Concept and Maitland Approach. These approaches are selected based on your injury and movement presentation to restore joint function and optimise recovery.

Exercise rehabilitation and athlete conditioning

As a sports physio clinic, we place strong emphasis on exercise-based rehabilitation, with programmes designed to restore strength, mobility and control while respecting training loads and recovery timelines. Rehabilitation may include flexibility work, progressive strengthening, balance and agility training, plyometrics, and sport-specific return-to-play preparation.

Shockwave therapy

Shockwave therapy is a specialised service available within our clinics. This advanced physiotherapy treatment uses acoustic wave technology to stimulate tissue healing and is commonly used for persistent tendon and soft tissue injuries that have not responded to other treatments. >>Read more about Shockwave therapy

Pilates-based rehabilitation (launching April)

Our new Pilates Studio will offer Clinical and Reformer Pilates to support controlled movement, spinal stability and long-term injury prevention as part of an integrated rehabilitation pathway.

Common sports injuries we treat

We regularly assess and treat a wide range of sports injuries affecting both recreational and competitive athletes, including:

  • Muscle strains and ligament sprains
  • Tendinopathies and overuse injuries
  • Knee injuries such as runner’s knee and jumper’s knee
  • Shoulder injuries, including swimmer’s shoulder
  • Groin pain, hip-related injuries and sportsman’s hernia
  • Foot and ankle injuries, including Achilles problems
  • Impact injuries and contact-related trauma
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation
  • Spinal injuries, including disc-related conditions

If you are unsure about the nature of your injury, our clinicians will guide you through a clear assessment and diagnosis.

A clear pathway back to sport

Your rehabilitation plan outlines each stage of recovery, from early pain management and mobility work through to progressive strengthening and sport-specific conditioning.

We work closely with you to support a safe return to sport while improving resilience and reducing the risk of future injury. Your goals, training schedule and performance requirements shape every stage of your programme.

Frequently asked questions

You should book an appointment if pain limits movement, affects training or does not settle within a few days. Early assessment helps prevent injuries from becoming long-term.
